If there is one thing we like, it’s a good retro-styled game and Rasher Basher certainly fits that bill with its simple control system and 16-bit graphics.

But although you only have to press up and down to move a pig character that automatically moves left and right, it makes for amazingly challenging gameplay.

The story revolves around a series of evil intergalactic pigs, called the Wabos, who are fed up of eating rubbish food on their planet and so decide to invade Earth to pick up lots of cookies, chocolate and soft drinks.

Our hero, Rasher, aims to stop them by gathering the food up and deactivating a forcefield placed around the globe.

It’s all a bit silly but it’s great fun and you will have a blast as you attempt to guide Rasher around increasingly difficult courses, gathering up the food, watching out for the time limit and avoiding the nasty Rashoids sent by the Wabos to kill you.

As the levels progress, the difficulty level is really cranked up and you have to keep your wits about you. Yes, you will die, but there’s a solid learning curve and it keeps you going back for more.

With a mix of skill and luck, finishing levels beyond the first represent a deep triumph.
