Writer-director Christopher Smith (Severance, Triangle) ventures back in time to medieval England to a country in the grip of the plague.
A young monk called Osmund (Eddie Redmayne) is asked to be a guide for a fearsome knight called Ulric (Sean Bean) and his small group of mercenaries.
They seek a necromancer in a remote marsh, who possesses the power to bring the death back to life.
Osmund is conflicted about the quest - while he believes in God, he also cannot bear to let the people he loves fall victim to the deadly Black Plague.
Eventually, the party discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva (Carice Van Houten), and she offers Osmund his heart’s desires.
However, every wish comes with strings attached and for the valiant knight, the price demanded by Langiva could be his life.
