Lancashire Telegraph review by Kate Turner from May 29, 2010.
NOT many cafes can boast views of a former stately home, a beautiful park and woodland.
And it seems it is that which draws people to The Stables Cafe in the grounds of Towneley Hall.
We visited on the hottest weekend of the year so far and all the outside seating was, unsurprisingly, already taken.
We took the last table inside.
The menu is fairly extensive with a choice of sandwiches, hot and cold, jacket potatoes and a range of more substantial main courses.
I opted for a baked potato with beans for £4.95, while my two-year old-son had chicken nuggets with chips and peas, for a very reasonable £2.95.
My potato arrived after a 15 minute wait, just warm and barely that.
The inside was still too hard for my liking and the skin wasn’t crisp.
I was also disappointed by the small amount of beans, while the small salad with it was more like a garnish.
My son’s meal, however, was rather large and much better value.
For dessert we shared a mint chocolate chip ice cream, which was delicious.
Although the food was variable in price and quality, the service was good and the surroundings second to none.
