TAKE seven fiddles, two guitars, an accordian and combine with a drummer and bassist.
As well as needing a big stage, you have the recipe for a thoroughly enjoyable night out.
The folk rock supergroup that is Feast of Fiddles turned on the style at Burnley Mechanics with a show that lasted over two hours and featured everything from traditional jigs and reels to covers of Aerosmith and Deep Purple with a rousing rendition of the James Bond theme thrown in for good measure.
The group is made up of musicians from some of the biggest names in folk including Chris Leslie from Fairport Convention, Show of Hand’s Phil Beer and Peter Knight from Steeleye Span.
With every member a consummate musician in their own right, the quality of the show was never in doubt.
What was surprising was the amount of fun and enjoyment these seasoned performers got from bringing the music they love to a live audience.
Every member was given the chance to showcase their considerable abilities and then the band would come together for some rousing ensemble pieces.
With lively between-song banter, the band was clearly having as much fun as their audience.
Under the leadership of Hugh Crabtree, the band only get together once a year for a small tour - my advice would be find out when they’re playing and go and see them.
