Darwen Library Theatre played host to everyone's favourite boy-meets-girl, plant-eats-world phenomenon last night Little Shop of Horrors.
For years now the musical based on the film by Roger Corman has made audiences roll with laughter and this version by Pepperpot Hill Theatre Group was no exception.
In this gleefully gruesome musical Seymour, a florist's assistant, allows his craving for fame and fortune to seduce him into playing nursemaid to a man-eating plant the props must have had their work cut out it was so realistic you almost felt scared.
Between bites were witty parodies of sixties music here some of the actors true colours really shone - including, the carnivorous Audrey II, named after Seymour's secret love, bringing down the house singing rhythm and blues.
And it was the voice behind the blood-thirsty plant who received the biggest applause when musical director John Kearns appeared to a standing ovation.
But although the show relied heavily on its two principles downtrodden Seymour, played by Peter Hardy and Audrey, the shop girl with lousy taste in clothes and boyfriends, played by Janet Harwood the remaining cast all helped to add sparkle to the night especially the three street-smart urchins.
The opening night left the audience feeling just like Audrey II between victims - hungry for more!
The show is on until Saturday nightly from 7.30pm with a matinee on Thursday at 2pm.
