Address: Railway Road, Ramsbottom
Lancashire Telegraph review by Jemma Humphreys from March 5, 2010.
THURSDAY night is officially the start of the weekend at The Buddha Lounge.
When myself and a friend decide to try the much talked about Thai restaurant in the village, it seemed we were the only ones who hadn’t been before. It was packed to the rafters with regulars.
We got the last table in the room and it wasn’t even 7 o’clock. It’s only quite small, with about 20 tables, but every one was full and the atmosphere was buzzing. People love it here, and it’s easy to see why.
Ramsbottom’s Buddha Lounge, like its older sister restaurant, in Whitefield, is beautifully presented and features an open-plan kitchen with a live TV feed.
There are two separate menus offering Thai and Cantonese choices. To say it is extensive, would be an understatement and in some ways it is a little overwhelming.
Once we’d got our head around it all we ordered a chicken Thai red curry and a beef Pad Kee Mao (a fat noodle dish with fresh chilli and garlic.) Both were full of flavour and enjoyed a hearty kick.
My only complaint would be that there could have been a little more meat in the curry. The sticky rice side order, served in a basket, was gorgeous. We did fancy a banquet but at £35 a head it seemed a little over priced.
It was all very well presented with beautiful crockery and the platter on the table next to us looked enviably mouth watering.
The service was a little slow, but very friendly and a waiter runs after every customer to open the door for you as you leave - one of the lovely touches which keep the regulars coming back again and again.
