FEW comedians can have had such a meteoric rise over the last 12 months than John Bishop.
On his last visit to Blackburn there were spare seats aplenty as the virtually unknown Liverpool stand-up put in an appearance.
Since then he’s become a regular face on TV shows including 8 Out of 10 Cats and Live at the Apollo.
As a result, on his return to King George’s the ‘sold out’ notices were up and a packed Windsor Suite lapped up a two hour show.
Bishop himself still seems somewhat taken aback by his new-found fame.
In smart suit he looks a little like a filled out version of Vernon Kay, but is much, much funnier.
A lot of the show is quite personal.
Bishop is a self deprecating comedian often putting himself and his life at the centre of his humour.
It’s like he’s having a chat with you and your mates in the pub – all 600 of them!
There’s a bit of language and the odd joke that your gran might tut at but Bishop’s style is fairly gentle for a modern stand-up and that adds to the homely appeal.
l John Bishop will be returning with a brand new show to King George’s Hall on Saturday, November 13. Details on 0844 847 1664.
