Lancashire Telegraph review by David Magilton from August 22, 2009.
IT HAD been about three years since my last visit to Ocean Palace and I went hoping it had maintained its well-deserved reputation.
Happily I can report it has, and if anything exceeded it. Busy Saturday night is usually a good test of any restaurant’s ability to deal with their customers and Ocean Palace passed with flying colours. My wife, two friends and I opted for the three-course house special at £25 per person.
The first course was a combination of spare ribs, spring rolls, sesame prawn on toast, deep fried won ton, satay skewered chicken, seaweed and pickled vegetables. They were delicious, tenderly cooked and well presented.
Second course was everyone’s favourite — crispy duck. It was as tasty as ever and came with a seemingly unlimited supply of pancakes.
We still had the main fayre to come, but we were not rushed and managed to make room for the next selection. It consisted of delicious roast pork in hot and spicy sauce, chicken and mushrooms in a black bean sauce and lamb with ginger and spring onions.
The rice was done to perfection and served up with delicious king prawns.
We washed it down with the highly recommended Chinese beer and an excellent bottle of the New Zealand sauvignon blanc.
It wasn't cheap, but there were options to suit all pockets.
