Lancashire Telegraph review by Jane Willis from November 5, 2008.
Strolling into The Spinners Arms, my daughter and I felt a bit like aliens from another world!
Situated off the main drag in Adlington, the pub is clearly a cornerstone for locals who prop up the bar to have a natter and watch the horse racing on the big flat screen.
You can imagine how heads turned when two female ‘outsiders’ waltzed in looking for a bite to eat. But the atmosphere was certainly not off-putting.
The man behind the bar was polite, friendly and efficient while his female co-worker, who also doubled up as a waitress, was equally accommodating.
Food-wise the pub doesn’t boast a huge all-day menu, just a few popular afternoon meal choices for meat eaters and veggies, with nothing too fancy.
The bar menu also lists an assortment of lunchtime favourites such as sandwiches, jackets and paninis. My daughter went for a cheese and tomato panini, chips and side salad while I opted for an all-time winter favourite, lasagne and chips.
As we were the only ones eating this Saturday afternoon it was no surprise that the service was swift and the food didn’t take too long to arrive.
To my daughter’s delight the chips were perfect. Cut to the right shape and golden brown! The serving was ample for the price and my daughter struggled to finish her hot, well toasted “gorgeous” panini.
My bowl of lasagne was nothing fancy but adequate for the price. A tad dry at the bottom and a little too cheesy on the top, it was certainly not the worst lasagne I’ve eaten and served piping hot.
Overall the meals and a couple of drinks came to under a tenner which is certainly not bad value.
