NEW Orleans came to Blackburn last night as the Doctor came up with the perfect prescription to beat the winter chill.
Legend is an overused term but for Dr John it somehow seems right.
With his band the Lower 911 he gave a virtuoso show of blues, soul and funk. With fedora, shades and his mighty piano this was a man completely at ease with what he was doing. It was just a shame there were so few people there to enjoy it.
Credit crunch, apathy, an unwillingness to try something different — whatever the reason don’t let me hear people complain there’s never anything worth seeing in East Lancashire.
This was a night of sheer class. It ended appropriately enough with a touch of the mardi gras and everyone left with a smile.
Brilliant stuff.
