It is a well known fact that only 43 people were at the Sex Pistols' first Manchester gig at the Lesser Free Trade Hall in 1976.

And for a nervy couple of hours on Friday night it looked like even less people were turning out for The Following Announcements first Accrington gig.

Not that the Bristol four piece were letting it worry them.

Throughout the two warm up acts' sets, the lads could be seen pogo-ing in true punk style right in front of the stage while the rest of us (which numbered less than half a dozen at this point) watched on from further back.

But by some miraculous turn of events, by the time The Following Announcement took to the stage the place was starting to buzz with anticipation and - more importantly - people.

And without wanting to herald the lads as the next Sex Pistols - for one bassist Matt is distinctly more talented and has more stage presence than Sid Vicious - I have a feeling we may hear a lot more from them.

Their set was a tight as a nat's behind and the showmanship kept the place bouncing.

Friday Nights Ain't All That and new song Price of Fame already sound like anthems-in-waiting should the lads fulfil the potential that I certainly believe (and have done since stumbling across them on MySpace a couple of months ago) they have.

Despite the song title, Friday night could just be all that for The Following Announcement who have certainly left a lasting impression in this part of the world.
