Lancashire Telegraph review by Alan Simpson from February 28, 2008.
THERE was love in the air as we walked in from the crispy cold air of a mid February evening.
It was Valentine's night and my last experience of trying to enjoy this most romantic of evenings in a Chinese restaurant ended in disaster.
On that occasion the manager had totally underestimated the popularity of the event.
It resulted in long waits and customers losing their tempers.
And in one corner one lovey dovey couple ended up blaming each other for the choice of venue and storming out in different directions! Ahh, love is ...
Anyway, let me tell you now, the Beijing was exactly the opposite.
We were greeted within three strides of entering the generously proportioned establishment, shown to a table in one of the side rooms, handed the menu and had our drinks order taken all within a matter of moments.
We chose a banquet for two and enjoyed prawn crackers, a chef's special soup (thickened by just a little too much cornflour), meat spring rolls, salt and pepper chicken wings, crispy duck with pancakes, slices of beef in a spicy sauce and sweet and sour chicken.
Service was always with a smile and the courses were brought to the table at perfectly timed intervals allowing the last mouthful of the previous course to settle comfortably.
And, this time round, I saw every couple leave together and in the same direction!
Cupid's arrow hit bull's eye at the Beijing.
