Lancashire Telegraph review by Kate Turner from May 7, 2011.
WITH a virtually identical name to its predecessor (Gram Bangla) and the modern interior just as similar, you could be mistaken for thinking that the Green Bangla has nothing new to offer customers.
But since being taken over, the popular Indian restaurant has a new extended menu that caters for everyone from newbies to connoisseurs.
As well as all the usual korma, balti and massala dishes you would expect there is a great range of more adventurous ones including desi duck, plates with Indian spices served on a hot sizzler and sylhet seabass.
For starter I had onion bhaji and my partner chose chicken pakora and we decided to share poppadoms but were disappointed to find that we had to pay an extra £1.50 for a tray of sauces to accompany them.
We waited almost half an hour for our starters but they were a good size and piping hot, my onion bhaji was moist inside and crispy on the outside as I would have hoped and the pakora was tender and juicy.
For my main course I went for chicken tikka barbecue which came on a hot sizzler plate with a balti sauce and my partner had steak masala.
Both dishes were flavoursome and large but the meat content could have been greater.
The staff were friendly, but the food was pricey, our meal and soft drinks came to £40.
Green Bangla is worth a visit but is certainly not a cheap night out.
