Slaidburn, with its ancient church and Hark to Bounty pub which was once a courthouse, is a joy.
The bar of the courthouse has been preserved upstairs and is used occasionally as a function room.
It gives a whole new meaning to the phrase "called to the bar".
The history of Bowland is explained in the splendid little Heritage Centre and its attached tearoom.
This is wonderful walking country and United Utilities have published a walking trail around nearby Stocks Reservoir.
