AS Ramadan came to an end one group of volunteers have been sharing the joy of the holy month with those less fortunate than themselves.
The second ‘Feeding the Needy’ event in Blackburn town centre was also a way to reach out to others in their own community who may have fallen on hard times.
The event was made possible after donations from across the community.
The group of volunteers also donated money to help provide each person with toiletries, which included toothbrushes, toothpastes and others items in each hamper.
The event provided hot meals, drinks and desserts donated by generous local businesses.
Mo Congress, who helped organise the event, said: “After a huge success last year it was pleasing to see the community come together like this.
“Ramadan is a month of charity and goodwill and it was a small way for us to help those less fortunate than ourselves.”
Some volunteers also donated clothes after an appeal went out earlier in the month, and Mo added: “I would like to thank all volunteers who worked tirelessly to bring this event together and on the day provided hot meals in the pouring rain while fasting, “I would also like to thank local businesses and the public for their donations.
“Muslims and non-Muslims coming together to show their support and help is always heartwarming at a time when there are is so much strife around the world.
“Bringing smiles to the faces of these people was truly humbling.”
He said he was hoping to make the event a regular occurrence, adding: “After our event last year there has been a rise in feeding the needy projects in Blackburn and as a result there are now more weekly events to provide hot meals to those in need.
“We are also aiming to make this a regular event rather than once a year after consecutively proving a success.”
A huge thank you to Fayaz Bharucha for taking his time out to photograph the event.
