A NEW trailer to the timeless classic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has been released The film that redefined romance in Indian cinema, will complete is completing 1,000 weeks of showings on Friday, December 12.
A whole host of activities are being planned for the day, but for now a special trailer has been launched.
A statement from the movie’s production banner Yash Raj Films (YRF) read: “Starting December 12, 2014, YRF is looking at a slew of activities to commemorate the completion of 1,000 weeks of DDLJ’s uninterrupted run at the box office.”
“The film released on October 20, 1995, and ever since has been playing out in the iconic Maratha Mandir, making it the longest running film in the history of Indian cinema,” the statement read.
It marked filmmaker Yash Chopra’s son Aditya Chopra’s directorial debut and featured SRK, Kajol, Amrish Puri, Farida Jalal and Anupam Kher in key roles. As part of the celebrations, Shah Rukh and Kajol, who were last seen together in My Name Is Khan, will appear on the television show Comedy Nights With Kapil to celebrate the occasion.
The film scooped won 10 Filmfare Awards, including the awards for the best film, best actor, best actress, best director, at the 1996 edition of the ceremony.
The film tells the story of a young couple who fall in love on a European vacation, and relates how the boy tries to win over the girl’s parents so that she can marry him rather than the boy that her father has chosen for her.
It was filmed in India, London, and Switzerland.
It was declared an “All-time Blockbuster” and became the biggest Bollywood hit of the year, as well as one of the biggest Bollywood hits ever.
In India classic films continue to be played in cinemas year after year to packed houses with audiences watching them over and over again.
