ACTOR Sanjay Dutt says he was happy to do his own stunts during the filming of Ungli.
The “veteran” actor makes a welcome return to the screens after a tempestuous few years in his personal life.
“It just so happens I am in the best shape of my life right now.
“I’ve lost a lot of weight and my fitness has got a lot better which meant I actually could enjoy all the stunts.
“I know it sounds obvious but so many people talk about losing weight and gaining muscle but aren’t willing to put in the hard work to actually achieve it.”
“Diet is also really important.
“You can exercise as much as you want but if you aren’t willing to change your diet then you won’t see a change.”
The much anticipated anti-hero movie Ungli centres on the lives of five rebels, who decide that they have had enough of the corruption that has blighted their city, and so decide to unite and expose the corrupt through whatever means necessary.
The only thing that stands in their path is a tenacious police officer named Kale, portrayed by Dutt.
He said: “I think Inspector Kale is simply misunderstood.
“I really enjoyed playing Kale, the stunts were all really fun and doing the fight scenes with the cast was hysterical.
“It’s fun playing the villain now and again.
“Villains are so simple and you don’t have to worry about the audience loving you.
“My character is able to get away with anything and I think that sort of character is always the most enjoyable to play.”
Kangana Ranaut said: “With this type of film, men have always been at the forefront of fighting crime and standing up to corruption.
“I think by having a girl in the group it shows how times are changing.
“And that women can kick ass as well.”
Emraan Hashmi added, “She is a fantastic actress. I have seen her previous films and I have worked with her before and it has always been enjoyable.
“We had a real blast working together and everyone says we have great onscreen chemistry so that always helps! Because the films involves lots of stunts we started going to the gym together, she is really dedicated to being the best she can be.”
It is directed by avant-garde filmmaker and scriptwriter Rensil D’Silva, who is responsible for some of Indian cinemas most thought-provoking screen hits, including Kurbaan, Rang De Basanti, Student Of The Year and the Indian version of award-winning US TV show 24.
Ungli is out today.
