A park and ride scheme on Eid for visitors to Pleasington Cemetery, Blackburn, will again be conducted this year.
The scheme was considered a great success in 2013 as it helped to minimise disruption and congestion in the cemetery for visitors.
It was managed by the council and the local police with the help of a team of volunteer marshals from the community, pitching in at a time of need.
In recent years the number of people from the Muslim community visiting the cemetery to offer prayers on Eid morning has increased.
The roads and the infrastructure of the cemetery cannot cope with the volume of traffic generated during a short period on Eid.
This is also a visible issue when there are large funerals.
Buses will be running continuously and will pick up and drop off from the pavilion at Pleasington.
They will take visitors into the cemetery and drop off and pick up, returning to the pavilion.
On average there will be a bus every five minutes.
People with disabilities who have a valid blue badge will be allowed into the cemetery with their vehicles.
The buses are free on the day but organisers would ask that you make a voluntary contribution to allow the team to fund future Eid Day park and ride schemes.
Mosques are being urged to stagger Eid prayer (Khutba) times by 15 minutes. This will help manage the flow of traffic.
Mosques are also being asked to make a small contribution which will help to pay for the buses on the day.
