COMPETITORS will be ankle deep in gravy as they take part in this year’s world gravy wrestling championship.
The annual spectacle will ta ke place on bank holiday Monday, August 27, at the Rose ‘n’ Bowl in Newchurch Road, Stacksteads, from 11.30am.
The event started in 2007.
Competitors must wrestle in a 16-foot pool of Lancashire Gravy for two minutes and are scored on technique as well as their ability to please the crowd.
Rules are similar to regular wrestling, but with the added bonus of gravy.
This year the competition will be filmed by Channel 5 as part of Rory and Will’s Championships of the World, hosted by actors Will Mellor and Rory McGrath and will be screened in the autumn.
Proceeds from the competition will go to East Lancashire Hospice.
