ANYTHING above a whisper is usually frowned upon, but next month rock band Savant will be ignoring the “quiet please” notices and causing a ruckus at Leigh Library on August 13.

The four-piece, made up of Paul Keaveny, Steve May, Chris May and Dave Killick, are inspired by the likes of Massive Attack, Faith No More, Ronnie Size and Radiohead, with lyrical influences including Nick Cave, Elbow and The Smiths.

The band formed in Manchester four years ago after school friends Paul and Chris resolved to try to write the kind of music they loved listening to.

They were joined by Chris’s brother, Steve, and drummer Dave, who had studied music and sound production with Chris at Salford University.

Originally called Blacklist, the band released an EP in 2009, Fight Or Flight.

Since then, the writing and sound has evolved, bringing in more samples and electronic textures to accompany the band’s raw four-piece sound.

New album Codes is out now and available from piccadillyrecords.com.

* Savant play the Turnpike Centre at Leigh Library on August 13. Doors open at 7pm and admission costs £3. Tickets are available from Leigh Library counter.
