FRESH light is being shed on Burnley’s own “dark satanic mills” with an illuminating event on July 22.
Work is under way to create a new public square, in Sandygate, in the shadow of the mills which made East Lancashire’s fortune.
Now Mid Pennine Arts will host Dark Satanics, a gathering designed to showcase the square’s potential, featuring live music and the unveiling of an art installation.
For nearly two months textile specialists from Art-yarn have been fashioning a knitted, crocheted and woven patchwork.
Rob Carder, MPA’s business director, said: “With work set to begin soon on the Weavers’ Triangle, we want Dark Satanics to bring people into the area to celebrate this new beginning, but also to help us redefine the area as a potential creative and cultural hub for Burnley.”
This event celebrates MPA’s new office base in the Weavers’ Triangle.
Dark Satanics is supported by Arts Council England, and by the Sandygate Square partners’ group through Burnley Borough Council.
* Dark Satanics takes place at Sandygate, Burnley on Friday, July 22. 4-7pm. Free. People are encouraged to bring a picnic and rainwear in case of bad weather.
