JASON Donovan lookalike and fellow Antipodean (I’m not Australian, but Jason is, in case there was any misunderstanding there) Bill Granger is up in Yorkshire. He’s not been before.
“Wow, it’s really beautiful. Just look at that scenery.
"It’s not what I was expecting. I thought it would be a lot more industrial,” he gushes, clearly having missed out “The Margaret Thatcher Years” in his English history lessons.
He’s chuffed as anything when he parks up at his eco-friendly lodge at “Nature’s Retreat” and discovers beautiful views, a great kitchen space and a hamper full of local goodies.
Bill goes to Harrogate to see a gourmet butcher make pork pies for which the recipe took years to perfect, before baking his own beef pie, then he calls in at a cheesemaker and makes a twice-baked cheese souffle.
He described eating a souffle and enjoying a glass of red (from his free hamper) as the perfect Saturday night. Surely it takes a bit more than that Bill.
Obviously, the programme wouldn’t have been complete without a visit to a local Women’s Institute to learn how to make an authentic Yorkshire pudding — a given on a trip to “God’s Own Country”.
Still, Bill seems an amiable sort, but then so would I be if my job consisted of enjoying free trips around the country, chatting to interesting people and quaffing good food and drink.
On top of all this, he seems to have managed to ditch the wife and kids for this series.
Or perhaps they just didn’t fancy the trip up to industrial Yorkshire.
