THE latest Australian music export All Mankind come to Accrington’s new music venue Bohemia on June 10.

The Sydney-based four-piece are on their first UK tour, promoting the first single Break The Spell from their debut LP Simple Desire — due for release in the autumn.

With two EPs already released, the band have attracted attention across the world, including tracks featuring on American series Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution and MTV’s The Hills.

Taking a break during the Liverpool Sound City festival, where they played a lunchtime gig in the presidential suite of the city’s Hilton Hotel, singer and piano player Rich Beeston said the North West city had become a second home, with the forthcoming album recorded there.

“Liverpool’s kind of become our UK base through our producer Mike Crossley, who’s worked with Arctic Monkeys, Razorlight and The Kooks,” he said.

“We feel really comfortable here, it has a really strong musical heritage with the massive names that have come from the city. It is like a second home.”

Since the Liverpool gig, the band — made up of Rich, Dave Beeston on drums and backing vocals, Gavin Perkins on bass and Dorny on guitar — have visited Dublin, Blackpool and Leeds, among others, and are pleased with the response they’ve received.

“This is our first real UK tour and we were hopeful our sound would come over well, and people would enjoy us, but it has been even more positive than we expected,” Rich said.

“Other bands have been coming up to us and talking about our music, which is rare where we come from.

"We weren’t sure whether people in Brighton or Birmingham would like different types of music.”

The Bohemia venue, on Warner Street in Accrington, is part of a bigger project which is working towards hosting a music festival in the town next year.

The award-winning venue is backed with a Bohemia project office in the town’s market hall.

Rich added: “We hadn’t heard of Accrington until we got a gig there, but we do have friends in Leyland and have played Preston a few times.

“From what we’ve heard, this new venue is pretty swish and they’re trying to bring great music — so we’re looking forward to it.”
