ONE of the longest established concert bands in the country will be playing a special concert to support the armed forces in Blackburn on June 25.
The East Lancashire Concert Band will perform a musical celebration at the Thwaites Empire Theatre.
The concert is in support of national Armed Forces Day and local cadets have been invited to represent the various armed foces.
The concert band can trace its roots to 1842 when public suscription saw the formation of the Accrington Old Band.
Its other names have included the Accrington Military Prize Band, the 30th County of Lancaster Battalion Home Guard Band and most recently Hyndburn Concert Band.
In 2009 Dale Grindrod was appointed musical director.
Made up of very accomplished players the band has recently moved to a new base at Oswaldtwistle Civic Arts Centre.
