IF you’re looking for a magic show with the quality that you would only get in Vegas, then look no further than Ali Cook.
The Yorkshire-born star who featured on the ITV1 series Penn and Teller: Fool Us, will be coming to East Lancashire with his brand new show, Principles and Deceptions.
The popular illusionist, who has also worked in East Lancashire, will be offering a new twist to his magic, swapping his famous duck and chicken routine for suggestion and hypnosis playing with the minds of the audience.
“I tend to rotate the styles of magic that I can do, so we are giving the animals a break during this show — they are now in retirement.
"This time it’s all about being weird and wonderful,” said Ali, who is under the same manager as Derren Brown.
“There will be more mind reading and audience interaction.
“It’s the quality of a Las Vegas show or something that you would see on television.”
But this kind of sophisticated magic is only for an audience of 14-year-olds and over and Ali, who has also written and performed in seven British TV series, said the audience would certainly be enchanted.
“I found a way of doing the magic and illusions through suggestion and hypnosis.
“You have to ask the audience whether they are experiencing something because they are psychic or if it’s all just psychological.
“This show will be offering illusions, similar to those of Derren Brown.”
At the age of 13, Ali started his magic tricks and spent a lot of time doing private parties in East Lancashire with his mentor Shaun McCree.
He said: “Shaun was with me as I was learning new tricks and we used to do private shows up and down the A59, so it will be nice to be back up that way.
“Comedy and magic will be combined and there is plenty more weird and wonderful magic throughout the show — including borrowing items of clothing from the audience.”
