I CAUGHT this for the first time in a long while and was struck by several things.
Firstly, is the cat on the roof in the titles the same one that has been on there for decades? Secondly, have some of the actors on this programme ever had any other jobs? Thirdly, do the plots ever change?
There’s always an affair going on, there’s a street gossip, a rogue, Steve MacDonald looking hassled and a bit ropey, someone with a dog and a person who, whatever their partner does, fails to pick up on the fact that he/she is a psychopath.
At the moment, said psycho — think Alan Bradley of the 80s, Jon Lindsay in the 90s — is one John Stape, who despite kidnapping Rosie Webster, murdering several people and stealing an identity, managed to convince Fiz to marry and stick with him.
The couple have a somewhat ironically named baby, Hope.
Chesney is on the case though and knows John is as dodgy as they come, but is still daft enough to end up tied up in a basement with another couple.
I ask you, who would buy a house on Coronation Street? They’re going cheaper than in Midsomer.
