FOLLOWING the fantastic response to last year’s 10-year reunion concert, Soul Deep return to Burnley on October 9 to roll back the years to the classic soul era.
During the nineties, the East Lancashire band earned a huge reputation as the north’s number one soul band, performing on bills with artists such as Heatwave, Geno Washington, and Ike Turner.
Among their fans was snooker legend Steve Davis, who caught their shows when he was competing at Preston’s Guild Hall.
Soul Deep’s saxophone player Dave Haynes said: “It’s a privilege to help keep alive such a fine body of work, songs that have brought so much enjoyment to so many over the years, songs that have stood the test of time.
"We try to remain true to the original versions, while putting our individual mark on them.
“For this concert we have reworked, with a soul arrangement, a couple of modern songs, one of them Mercy by Duffy,” added Dave, who lives in Burnley, and works for Twin Valley Homes, in Blackburn.
The nine-piece soulsters, fronted by vocalist Geno and Deepettes Michelle and Lisa, will perform an evening of Stax and Motown Classics.
* Soul Deep play The Mechanics on Saturday, October 9. The band will be on stage from 8.30pm, with a soul disco kicking off the evening at 7.30pm. Tickets are available from the box office on 01282 664400.
