THE good old British viewing public, you can always rely on them to go and do the wrong thing can't you?

I have long held the belief that viewers should not be allowed to vote for anything. And now I'm totally convinced.

It was bad enough Janice Dickinson didn't win I'm a Celebrity but now the couch-dwelling population of this country have proven conclusively that they clearly haven't got a clue.

How else can you explain the fact that David Platt lookalike (the Coronation Street one, not the former England player) Leon won the X-Factor and Rhydian didn't.

Come on! Since the very first programme it has been obvious that the only true talent has been the scary looking Welshman who stepped off the film set for The Lost Boys.

Surely the point of X-Factor (if indeed there is a point) is to discover someone who is different, someone with really star quality.

Sure Rhydian was more opera than pop but at least he stood out.

Anyone who can sing a Pet Shop Boys song dressed like a sailor and get away with it has some sort of star quality.

Leon was perfectly harmless, but really perfectly ordinary.

Perhaps he won because he got Kylie to dress up like an Ann Summers model.

Who knows. The public have only got themselves to blame.
