IT'S Saturday night and a trip to Sherwood Forest is becoming a must for TV viewers.
Robin Hood may not have the great theme tune that graced the Fifties original but this current series has really found its feet as far as escapist entertainment is concerned.
This week Robin and his merry men decided to raid the evil Sheriff's strong room only to find it was something out of Indiana Jones complete with booby traps and poison darts.
Did they manage it? What do you think?
At times it's all a bit Carry On Sherwood with a few one-liners thrown in for the mums and dads and some not so subtle innuendoes added for good measure.
Since the last series Maid Marian appears to have been given a makeover and gone all glam on us. She also appears to have been dressed by Dorothy Perkins (did they have synthetic fabrics in the reign of King John?).
But it doesn't really matter. This is harmless hokum which is just meant to be enjoyed. It's not a serious work of drama.
Having said that, when they give out all the luvvie TV awards chances are Robin Hood will never make a long list, never mind a shortlist, but Keith Allen deserves some kind of recognition for his snarling, pantomime villain-style Sheriff of Nottingham.
