AND so Bruno has conquered the Ice Queen, Rihanna has got her support act and the Beeb is going to have to find something else to fill its Saturday night schedules to replace DanceX.

Truth to be told, the whole DanceX experience has been something of a damp squib.

Anyone expecting the excitement of Strictly Dance Fever would have been left disappointed.

Of course, all those selected for the final stages were extremely talented but the sight of a group of brightly clad dancers cavorting around stage only offers so much.

Where I felt DanceX failed was with the "rivalry" between the two opposing team leaders - it was just so contrived it was almost embarrassing Arlene Philips may be one of the great choreographers but she isn't that brilliant when it comes to talking to the camera. If you tied her arms to her side she would become virtually mute.

Then there's Bruno "Mr Excitable" Tonioli. Again, he knows his stuff - he was one of the dancers in a Bananarama video - but the over-the-top outpourings, "these are the real deal", got a little bit much.

One thing that DanceX did prove is that, in the main, dancers can't sing and singers can't really dance. It also proved the British viewing public will still vote for anything on TV.

What happened to the good old days when you were simply expected to just watch a programme?
