I WISH I had a friend like Gok Wan.

The man behind Channel 4's How to Look Good Naked is a much-needed antidote to celebrity culture and the pressure to be trim, toned and tanned at all times like Posh and co.

I imagine being Gok's best friend must be like having a personal cheerleader at your shoulder at all times to remind you of your good points when you're having a fat day or feeling guilty after having wolfed down too many chocolates.

Last night, in the final show of the series, our Gok managed to rebuild the self-esteem of a 41-year-old from Essex who felt like she'd turned into a dumpy middle-aged woman.

But with the help of some scaffolding-style underwear and the right gear, hey presto, she emerged with a perfect hour-glass figure and a sexy spring in her step.

Gok is fast building cult status because, unlike the Trinny and Susannahs of TV, this guy gains the trust of the women he transforms.

They know he's telling them the truth and don't feel threatened by him - perhaps because he doesn't try to grab their bosoms or force marriage counselling advice down their throats like the aforementioned fashionistas.

To get a woman who weeps at the sight of her naked bum to be photographed naked is something that requires respect in my book, anyway.
