A SPECIAL consignment of beer landed at Project Propeller’s Annual Veterans’ Reunion.

Blackburn brewery Thwaites delivered 300 bottles of Lancaster Bomber, which featured a special ‘Project Propeller’ neck label, to the decorated airmen who had gathered at Gloucester’s Jet Age Museum to meet with former comrades.

Assembled at the event was an entire Lancaster Bomber crew, including pilot Mike Warren, flight engineer Ron Brown, navigator George Davies, bomb aimer John Bell, rear gunner David Fellowes, mid-upper gunner Jim Copus and wireless operator Laurie Davis.

Graham Cowie, one of Project Propeller’s organisers, said: “The addition of our very own Project Propeller Lancaster Bomber ale made a special day, all the more special.

“It’s so important that we thank these incredible gentlemen for their immeasurable contribution to our freedom and to have an entire Lancaster Bomber crew gathered before us was a truly humbling experience. Lancaster Bomber has a long association with World War II veterans and the delightful chestnut ale was certainly appreciated by everyone on a very hot summer’s afternoon.”

Des Gallagher, marketing manager at Thwaites, said: “We were honoured to show our support to the incredible array of veterans gathered at Project Propeller’s reunion.

“Our drinkers are passionate about respectfully remembering the sacrifice and dedication of our nation’s air force and we were thrilled to learn that our gift was enjoyed by many.”

Established in 1999, Project Propeller aims to bring veterans together by buddying them with a current pilot so that they may fly together to a designated UK air field.
