SUNDAYS in Blackburn may never be the same for live music lovers!

For starting this weekend, Reidy’s Home of Music on Nab Lane will be hosting special Sunday sessions showcasing the best local bands.

Each week local a local performer will get the opportunity to play live on the purpose-built, in-store stage at the music superstore which opened last year.

Fittingly, the first Sunday session this weekend will see the winners of the Lancashire Telegraph-backed Reidy’s Talent contest, The Remedy playing live.

The Ribble Valley acoustic duo – Hannah Spurgeon and Elliot Dryden – took the £1,000 prize at a live final at King George’s Hall, Blackburn, after more than 70 bands auditioned for a series of live heats.

Jamie George, from Reidy’s who is co-ordinating the Sunday sessions, said: “Through the talent contest we saw that there are so many talented bands out there and the Sunday sessions will give them a chance to perform to a new audience.

“We will also be recording the sessions and will be putting the best songs from each artist on YouTube as we go along.”

The Sunday sessions will run until the end of November and then it is hoped that they will recommence in the New Year.

“The store gets so busy around Christmas that we will give the sessions a break,” said Jamie.

Dates throughout August and September have already been confirmed with acts including hip hop trio Rime Suspex and folk singer Richard Moss.

“We will be needing more bands for the end of the year and 2013,” said Jamie. “If anyone is interested they should just send us a demo and a biog to events@reidys.com.”
