REBELLION Punk Festival pogoes it’s way into the Winter Gardens at Blackpool on August 8-11 with 200 bands, including legendary Joy Division and New Order bass guitarist Peter Hook and his new combo The Light.

Festival headliners Cock Sparrer, one of the most influential and requested punk bands, celebrate 41 years in the business this year and will be raising money for local charity Streetlife for vulnerable young people.

Hannah McFaull, 29, daughter of lead singer and founder Colin said: “The band have decided to use their status as festival headliners to raise money for Streetlife by raffling off the enormous backdrop they are going to use on stage.

“We’re hoping to raise a lot of money as the festival has over 5000 attendees. One lucky punter will get to take away the custom-made backdrop after the live draw on Sunday.

“My dad asked me to get involved as I’ve worked for several charities and I thought Streetlife was a particularly deserving one. Besides, punk is in my blood.”

Legend has it that Cock Sparrer met with Malcolm McLaren in 1976, who allegedly offered to sign the band alongside his newest discovery, the Sex Pistols.

According to the band, the deal never happened because McLaren refused to buy them a round of beers. Another explanation is that they refused to cut their hair in a style that McLaren wanted.

Other bands taking part in the four-day festival on six stages include The Damned, Sham 69, Buzzcocks, New Model Army and Lene Lovich, plus many more.

A four-day pass costs £140 and day tickets are available.
