FASHION guru Wayne Hemingway has backed the Blackburn with Darwen Good Neighbour Awards.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has teamed up with the Lancashire Telegraph to find the unsung heroes who make a real difference to people’s lives.

Last year’s Your Call Good Neighbours Awards were hugely successful, with nearly 70 people rewarded.

The campaign, in its second year, has been backed by Prime Minister David Cameron, opposition leader Ed Miliband, and Blackburn MP Jack Straw.

Local companies who have offered to sponsor the award include Capita, Blackburn Rovers, Blackburn with Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group, The Mall and The Pack Restaurant and Bar in Belthorn.

Now Blackburn-raised Mr Hemingway, who achieved global fame after founding the Red or Dead brand, has added his voice to support the awards. He said: “I supported them last year and I’m happy to do so again. It does seem a bit silly to be anything other than a good neighbour.

“Most of us choose to live in towns and cities, because as human beings, on the whole, we get on with and enjoy the company of others, and gain value from interaction with other human beings.”

Seven great prizes are on offer including a matchday meal for two at Blackburn Rovers; the chance to train with the team and have lunch with players at Blackburn Rovers training ground; and a weekend break including dinner, bed and breakfast for two at The Elgin Hotel, Blackpool.
