Did you go to St Mary’s College in Blackburn? If you’re a former student, the college would love to hear from you!
St Mary’s College is turning 90 this year and has teamed up with the education charity Future First to help reconnect with our former students. The vision is that the college should be supported by a thriving, engaged alumni community.
St Mary’s College was founded in 1925 by the Marist Fathers, operating as a Catholic Grammar School for boys. In 1978 St Mary's became a co-educational Sixth Form College. With a rich history of providing outstanding education to the catholic community, St Mary’s College has developed into an inclusive educational establishment providing students and staff of all religious beliefs, with exceptional opportunities and direction.
It’s keen to hear from students from the early days of the catholic grammar school for boys, to when the college became a co-educational sixth form.
Frank Dixon, Principal said; “The College has a long and illustrious past serving the community of East Lancashire for over 50 years, as a boy’s Catholic Grammar School and since 1978 as a Catholic Sixth form College. The Marist Fathers who founded the Colleges in 1925 act as trustees and have a visible presence in Blackburn.
“I am delighted that we, as a College, are signing up with Future First’s scheme. A network of former students with all their valuable experience will greatly help us broaden current pupils’ job horizons and equip them for the world of work.
“I am also looking forward in our 90th Anniversary year, to launching our Alumni, enabling old friends to reconnect and keeping them up to date with new and exciting developments at St Mary’s College.”
The College is planning to organise events to celebrate its 90 years and want to make sure that as many former pupils as possible stay connected with St Mary’s. Former students can sign up to the link https://networks.futurefirst.org.uk/former-student/stmc and encourage friends and family who studied here to sign up as well.
The College would also like to hear from our former students about memories, photographs and anecdotes they have of their time at the college for a commemorative booklet that will be available to buy. Please share any memories via email to Sue Devaney, Senior Marketing Officer on marketing@stmarysblackburn.ac.uk
