St Mary’s College student, Kieran Cunliffe, 17, has qualified for the British Colleges Sport (BCS) National Finals as part of the North West team after winning the BCS North West Table Tennis Competition Men's Singles Title.
Kieran who studies PE, Biology and Geography at St Mary’s had his first taste of table tennis six years ago while he was on a family holiday in Majorca. He enjoyed playing so much that he joined Whalley Table Tennis Club as soon as he returned home. Since then he has steadily improved his game while being part of the East Lancs Table Tennis League and decided to compete in the BCS North West competition after being encouraged by his PE teacher, Mark Hope.
Kieran won all of his six matches to be awarded BCS North West Table Tennis champion.
He has a keen interest of sport and fitness and has a future ambition of owning a successful gym.
Kieran says, “I am really pleased to be crowned BCS North West Table Tennis Men's Singles Champion and will be training hard to prepare for the BCS National Finals next year”.
Mark Hope, his Sports teacher says,“Kieran played tremendously well at the BCS North West Table Tennis Competition and to win the men's singles title was an outstanding achievement, especially against some really tough opponents. We now look forward to seeing him compete with the best table tennis players in the country at the BCS National Finals in April next year. Well done Kieran!”
