St Mary’s visual art and design students from A Level Textiles, Graphic Design, Digital Photography and Fine Art courses showcased their work in order to celebrate their success over the two years on Thursday 20th June.
It is usually a small and intimate gathering but this year we have had lots of requests from potential students and their families to come and have a look at our work.
Many students are progressing on to a range of prestigious universities, including Martha Blackburn (formerly Blessed Trinity) who has been offered a place at Manchester Metropolitan on their Textiles degree course straight from A Levels. Fiona Hartley (formerly St Bede’s) has had an offer from Brighton University to study Architecture, Hattie Windley (formerly Ribblesdale High) has been offered a place at Bournemouth to study Computer Games Design and Aimee Laing (formerly Mount Carmel RC) has been offered a place at Leeds College of Art to study Photography.
All of the Graphic Design students are progressing on to graphic design related degrees at universities across the country. Tyler Kearney (formerly Blessed Trinity) is one of these students; he is off to Northumbria University. Tyler also has a successful jewellery business called Scogs which incorporates old watch mechanisms into the design of the accessories. His jewellery has already been showcased at London Fashion Week and is available to buy in small boutiques across the North West.
Andrea Westall (Head of Department) says, “The class of 2013 have been an exceptionally hard working and talented group. They have benefited from a range of trips and enhancements to ensure their work is exciting and challenging. They have been a delight to work with and we look forward to hearing about their undoubted success in the future.”
“This year 59 students have studied the visual art courses at St Mary’s, all coming from a wide range of schools such as Blessed Trinity in Burnley and St Bede’s in Blackburn.”
“We love the chance to share their success at the preview evening with their friends and family, over a glass of Pimms!”
“The show is a credit to the dedicated and professional Art and Design staff who have always given much more than is expected to ensure that the students are supported and guided at every opportunity.”
