NELSON town centre came to a standstill yesterday as a host of Jubilee events got underway.
There was live music and free ice cream for under 14s. Scouts were offering shoe shining for 50p a pair and there were food stalls, free fairground rides and charity stalls.
Families from all cultures and backgrounds turned up to join in the jubilee celebrations, which were officially opened by the mayor County Councillor George Adam said: “It was something different for people in the town and a lot of people have come to the town centre to join in the celebrations.”
Coun Eileen Ansar said: “It went really well.”
