A breath-taking pause at the top of the much-anticipated big wheel is the moment everyone gazes around in wonder.
From high above the town hall, the Christmas decorations can be viewed from above for the first time.
Children who had earlier been queueing impatiently began to chatter excitedly.
As I reached the top I was amazed at the views of landmarks such as Blackburn Cathedral to the endless spread of street lights disappearing into the horizon.
The slow-moving ride, which takes 10 minutes and revolves a dozen times each ride, pauses dramatically as each ‘gondola’ reaches the summit.
