HUNDREDS of people poured into town dor the 98th Great Harwood Agricultural Show in 1964.

Although not the biggest of shows, there was plenty of variety and a high standard of exhibits in dozens of sections for the visitors as they piled through the showfield turnstiles.

Committee members had re-designed several of the classes and events, and the biggest change was the omission of poultry, because of local fowl pest.

Instead David Key of Thwaites brewery organised a pigeon section as a substitutem, which drew entries from as far away as Devon and Scotland.

There was also a record number of 80 in the cattle classes, 50 more animals then in the 1963 show and the egg classes were also well represented.

Vintage car and motorcycle displays drew large crowds, while the youngsters enjoyed a zoo, fun fair and pony rides.
