LET’S go back 64 years to the class of ’48 at St James’ School, in Altham.
There were just 26 infants and juniors in the school, who were taught in two classes.
As a close-knit rural community, there were a number of brothers and sisters among the pupils, while children of the teachers and head also attended.
This photo has been sent to us by Joan Wharton, nee Bradley, of Clayton-le-Dale, whose brother, Jim, and sister, Ann, were pupils.
Many of the youngsters would have been born during the years of World War II.
