ROSEGROVE Methodist Sunday School kept it in the family when they staged their first musical production for some years, back in 1965.
When the curtain went up on the 40-year-old musical comedy ‘The Street Singer’, it was a home-made production, with local folk only.
At one time they used to invite guests to take the leading roles, but after reviving their performances decided to keep it close to home.
Village chemist Edmund Bailey produced the show and also played the comedy lead. His wife, Peggy, played opposite, while the musical director was the former head of Rosegrove Secondary Modern School, Cyril Morris.
Housewife Rita Smalley took the title role, and joiner Alan Bland, brother of Barbara Coulthurst, from Burnley Light Opera Society, made his lead debut as Bonni.
Tom Sutcliffe played Levi, the picture dealer. Technical advice was offered by Burnley Highcliffe Players Freda Milns and Bill Goulding.
