THE 1st Oswaldtwistle St Paul’s Scout Group is celebrating its centenary this year.

The troop was formed by the Rev T E S Calterns in April 1911 – and newspapers of the time recorded that the lads attended a rally in Rhyddings Park that month.

A full calendar of activities has been planned throughout the year to celebrate the birthday, but scout leader Mick Shackleton is now seeking former members from down the decades.

He said: “One of the main celebrations will be a Big Event, a family fun day at the scout hut during the summer, and we would like St Paul’s scouts from the past to join in.

“Hopefully we can put together teams of our old scouts from the past years, including the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, to take part in a few challenges on the fun day.

“We are also keen to find the oldest living St Paul’s scout in the area, so we can invite them to share their memories of scouting in the past with our modern day scouts.”
