THREE young lads began a petition in the late sixties demanding more faciliities for young people.
It came in the week that Colne Borough Council awarded a £19,000 contract for the town’s first purpose-built youth centre, in Byron Road, to Russell Bros, of Nelson.
It was hoped to have the centre open and operational by the beginning of 1970.
But young people in the town complained there had been a long delay in building work, which had left them with nowhere to go.
In the picture the lads are, from left, Michael Harrison, Kevin Johnson, and Colin Stubbs.
