A BURNLEY Brownie pack was prepared to respond an urgent plea by the NSPCC for toys for needy youngsters.
As soon as the children heard the Christmas gifts appeal wasn’t going well in 1967, girls from the 41st Rosehill Brownies and pupils of Rosehill Junior School, went out and collected dolls, books and a mound of other toys.
Leader Mrs E Heaton, said; “The girls really made an effort, not only to collect, but to make the toys look nice.
“Some of them even knitted new clothes for the dolls.”
From left to right, the young brownies with some of their donated gifts, are seven-year-old Heather Tyson, of Lansdowne Street, her nine-year-old sister Sharon, Deborah Sowden, seven, of Rossendale Road and nine-year-old Barbara Wallis of Rosetti Avenue.
