One hundred and eighty! Well, not quite, but 154 teams took part in a darts competition organised by our former sister paper, the Burnley Evening Star, 41 years ago.

The contest was staged throughout Burnley, Nelson, Colne and Rossendale, at the start of 1967.

Among the teams chasing the title was the Coach and Horses all-conquering Burnley darts team, who were also in line for the league championship.

Here are a few of the teams who took part in the first stages: Engineers A, left to right, back: W Deaking (capt), E Birtwistle, V Kalvenas; front: S Hamilton, E Deakin (junior) and E Deakin (senior).

Royal Hotel Ladies, left to right, back: Mrs M Walker, Mrs M Gregory (capt); front: Mrs W Duerden, Mrs C Gordon and Mrs J Lavelle.

Old Duke B, left to right, back: H Sharpe, H Cookson, P Manningham; front: M Kalus, A Heywood.
