THE oldest Scout troop in Chorley started life in February, 1919 when it was known as Chorley Congregational Sunday School Scouts.
It is now Chorley United Reformed Church Scouts and still meets every Friday in the school attached to the church in Hollinshead Street.
Church member Derek Haslam is now planning to write a book on the history of the scouts, but needs your help.
He has managed to collect more than 90 photos from through the years, but believes there must be many more out there in Chorley and would like to include those in our book, too.
Another stumbling block is that he doesn’t know when many of the images he now has were taken or who is on them and reckons this is where the public may be able to help.
Said Derek: “We would like to put them in chronological order but without knowing when they were taken, we cannot do that.”
In a bid to get more information, an open day is being staged in the schoolroom this Saturday, October 25, between 10am and noon, when all the photographs will be on display.
There will be a printer there, to make copies if anyone would like one and also to copy any photos that you may have tucked away of the scouts in yesteryear.
Said Derek: “This is a free event and coffee will be available as well, so why not come along and see if you can find yourself on our many pictures.”
