SPEEDRING plates, which heated up in seconds, were the very latest way to cook, back in 1959.
In this advert from 55 years ago, Jackson urged the housewife to turn to electric cooking – which was modern cooking.
Jackson’s Joy 394, which cost £40 10s, was said to offer the cleanest, most up-to-date cooking of all, with its new, fast boiling, six-heat speed plates.
And with prices reduced, every kitchen and every budget could now accommodate a Jackson oven, which were available in electrical showrooms across East Lancashire.
Bringing ‘joy’ to the housewife, there were a variety of models and prices, depending on preference.
One, with a cold drawer, cost £35, another with an eye level grill was £49, while the top model, which came with an eye level grill, automatic timer, inner glass door and exclusive aluminium oven roof protector, was £60.
And best of all, families could buy one on favourable easy terms.
