THERE was a modern version of the Roman invasion of Ribchester when a party of tourist VIPs from Rome flew into Manchester on the inaugural flight between the cities in 1974.
The party were taken on a day’s outing to the Ribble Valley, with a stop at Clitheroe and a visit to the Ribchester museum.
They also enjoyed a visit to Slaidburn and a canal trip through Barnoldswick.
They then stopped at the Shireburn Arms for a traditional English high tea, served by the manager and former countryman, Mr R Almonti.
